Statistical concepts and definitions

Data Collection Sources: Locations where industrial goods and services produced.
Index of Industrial Production: An index that measures relative changes and reflects thedevelopment in the volume of production of materials and goods.
Laspeyres Formula:  The mathematical equation (developed by Statistician Laspeyres) whichcomputes the index using the weighted value levels with base periodweights.
Industrial Production: Theprocess of converting raw materials (inputs) into consumables in their finalform in the form of goods (outputs) in order to achieve a material return forthe facility.
Manufacturing industry: Physical and chemical transformation of materials, items, or ingredients toform new products and materials. The transferred materials are mostly rawmaterials from agriculture, mining, quarrying or products of othermanufacturing industries, specialized maintenance of industrial andcommercial machinery and equipment. Repairing such is within themanufacturing industry, but the repair of computers and personal andhousehold commodities not considered within the manufacturing industry.  Assembling parts resulted by manufacturingindustries is considered a manufacturing industry.
Base Period: Theperiod that compared to the current period.
Weights: Itrepresents the relative distribution of manufacturing industries valueswithin the country according to the main categories, sections, and groupsthat are components of commodities according to the International StandardIndustrial Classification of All Economic Activities, Rev.4.  The weights used in calculations that usethe Laspeyres Equation.
Base Value Theproduction values of goods and materials over a period of time in which thecurrent values are compared.
Commodity Frame: Thecategory of commodities that are part of the industrial production systemclassified according to the International Standard Industrial Classificationof All Economic Activities, Rev.4.
International Standard Industrial Classification for All EconomicActivities (ISIC): The international reference forproductive activities. The main purpose of this classification is to providea range of categories for activities that can used to collect and classifystatistics according to these activities in a format designed for the purposeof economic analysis. Classification consists of a coherent and consistentstructure of economic activities based on an internationally agreed-upon setof concepts, definitions, principles and classification rules.

The project has been implemented in accordance with the GSBPM methodology. All dimensions of statistical quality have been taken into account in accordance with the Charter of Statistical Data Quality of the Emirate of Dubai and adopted by the Center, especially those related to accuracy, objectivity and comparability. The classifications and methodologies used make the results of this project comparable at all national levels. It is based on the same standard classifications, methodologies and standard concepts.

User needs
- Monitor changes in the prices of domestic commodities that used in markets, as well as the consequent identification of the prices trends, market conditions.
- Important tool in the preparation of national accounts through ridding the national gross income from the impact of prices changes.
- Important indicator that reflects the extent of progress and development that occurs to the local productive sector in a period compared to another period.

Direct statistical survey of the target sample from the selected Establishment and products.

Frequency of data collection

Data are collected monthly.

Data collection

​Questionnaire (monthly) " Industrial Production Survey - Emirate of Dubai" is used for data collection with a pre-Prepared list of selected economic activities for which values are to be given.

The e-mail questionnaire (80%) is used to collect data, while (20%) is collected from field visits.
For non-response and for data review purposes, telephone calls and e-mail are used.
