In the spirit of strengthening joint strategic cooperation, the Dubai Statistics Center (DSC) and the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at the exchange and effective use of statistical data to better serve the public interest of the Emirate of Dubai.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the GITEX 2015 exhibition by Omran Sharaf, Senior Director, Programs Management Department on behalf of MBRSC and Ahmad Ali Al Dashti, Director of IT & Central Statistical Systems Department, representing DSC, in the presence of a number of senior managers and officials from both sides.

According to the MoU, the two parties will exchange information and statistical data about the Emirate of Dubai, as needed, required, or available by each party. The DSC will provide statistical support to MBRSC through the design and implementation of statistical surveys. According to the memorandum, DSC will also provide all kinds of statistical advice on the development of statistical studies and research related to the space sector.

Commenting on the signing of the memorandum, H.E. Yousuf Hamad Al Shaibani, Director General, MBRSC, said that "the Centre continues to strengthen the network of strategic partnerships with various government institutions, opening new channels of cooperation in order to serve the emirate. It also seeks to shed light on the importance of the use of space technologies in various development fields."

He added: "In this sense, the memorandum of understanding with DSC aims to achieve mutual benefits through the exchange of information, projection data, expertise, and techniques available to enhance the work of the two centers, each within its scope of specialization, in line with the ambitious goals of the Emirate of Dubai."

On his part, Arif Obaid Al Muhairi, CEO of DSC, reaffirmed the importance of collaboration with the various government organizations and institutions, with the goal of supporting development in the Emirate. "This agreement will allow DSC to offer statistical support to MBRSC, including data and statistical consultancy that would help in developing studies and surveys in the space sector," he added.

The two parties intend to use this agreement to realize their objectives for the UAE Vision 2021. The agreement also demonstrates the parties' commitment to provide integrated smart services by connecting all competent authorities. DSC also aims at spreading awareness around the importance of statistical surveys, in line with the parties' requirements and in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.

The GITEX 2015 Exhibition will run from 18 to 22 October at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
