The wholesale and retail trade activity includes commercial firms engaged in selling goods either wholesale or retail without modification. It also covers services related to the sale of goods. Economic indicators for this sector, such as value added, production, intermediate consumption, employment, employee compensation, and capital formation are measured through a series of economic surveys conducted by the Dubai Data and Statistics Establishment (DDSE). These surveys cover commercial firms licensed by all relevant authorities in the emirate of Dubai. This activity includes:
a. wholesale and retail trade, including the repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles b. wholesale trade, excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles c. retail trade, excluding motor vehicles and motorcycles These classifications follow the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC Rev. 4- PDF, 1.03 MB), which has been in use since 2013. DDSE reestimated the time series for all activities and republished them under the updated classification to ensure consistency and comparability.
