General Census of Population, Housing and Establishments
The general census is the main source of statistical data in many countries. Its importance emerges from its comprehensiveness and coverage of all units of the society being studied in the country or region in which it is conducted, and from the variety of data that can be collected, and the clarity and accuracy of the definitions used. In addition to preparing plans for statistical data that includes small geographical units and even population combines. The general census is considered the main pillar of the statistical system on which all subsequent statistical operations are built, especially as it provides different frameworks which include the framework of households, individuals, housing units, buildings, establishments, etc., which are essential data for sample surveys of various types. Eight population and housing censuses have been conducted in the Emirate of Dubai for the years 1968, 1975, 1980, 1985, 1993, 1995, 2000 and 2005, During the period following the last round of Dubai 2005 Census, the Center has been doing many field projects according to the methodologies and alternative technical methods adopted in this field to identify the demographic composition of the Emirate. The Center will implement the recommendations of the United Nations to adopt a census-based on administrative records approach in the next round 2020 for the Emirate of Dubai as part of the United Arab Emirates 2020 administrative census project.
