Marriage Contracts See Growth in Dubai by 3.4% in 2019

A total of 4,598 marriage contracts were registered in 2019, according to the Dubai Statistics Centre (DSC) who released the report for Marriage and Divorce Statistics 2019 for the Dubai region based on data extracted from the Dubai Courts, indicating a 3.4 percent annual increase of marriages in 2019 compared to a decline in divorce cases by 1 percent.

 

Emirates Today Newspaper has published relevant data on the subject matter shows that the number of registered divorces of mixed marriages, between an Emirati male and non-Emirati female (including Emirati male married to a non-Emirati female and Emirati female married to non-Emirati male), rose to 179 in 2019 with an annual increase of 8.5 percent. It is also noted that the total marriage contracts registered for Emirati spouses in 2019 were 956 contracts. 

 

The data show that the total marriage contracts registered in the Emirate of Dubai were 4,598 contracts during 2019 compared to 4444 contracts in 2018, with a growth of 3.4 percent. Meanwhile, the number of registered divorce certificates was 1308 in 2019 compared to 1321 certificates in 2018, with a decline of nearly 1 percent. 

 

According to the data released, the number of marriage contracts registered in Dubai during the past year for the Emirati husband married to an Emirati woman was 956 contracts compared to 965 contracts in 2018, with a decline of about 0.9 percent. 

 

As for the total contracts of the Emirati husband with a non-Emirati wife (includes cases of marriages between Emirati male to non-Emirati female, and Emirati female to non-Emirati male), they were 699 contracts compared to 701 contracts in 2018 with a drop of about 0.2 percent.

 

Concerning marriage contracts (non-Emirati married to non-Emirati), they amounted to 2943 contracts in 2019 compared to 2778 contracts in 2018, with a growth of about 6 percent. 

 

Additionally, statistics show that the divorce certificates registered in Dubai of an Emirati husband married to an Emirati woman in 2019 were 300 compared to 269 divorce certificates in 2018, with an increase of 11.5 percent. 

 

As for the total divorce certificates of the Emirati husband married to a non-Emirati wife (including Emirati male married to a non-Emirati female and Emirati female married to non-Emirati male), the total number was 179 certificates in 2019 compared to 165 in 2018, with an increase of nearly 8.5 percent.  

 

On the other hand, the total number of divorce certificates (non-Emirati male and non-Emirati female) was 829 in 219 compared to 887 certificates by the end of 2018. Figures show a decrease of about 6.5 percent. 

 

Noteworthy, the population of the Emirate of Dubai reached 3,356,000 people at the end of 2019, compared to 3,192,000 in 2018. The Dubai population stood at an increase of 164,000 people, with a growth of 5.13 percentage. The total number of the male population was 2,332,000 people compared to 1,240,000 females.
