Dubai's Annual Price Index Drops by 3.49% in May 2020

The report issued by Dubai Statistics Center (DSC) states that the annual general index of consumer prices dropped by 3.49% in May 2020 compared to the same period in 2019, as the prices of the following sectors were dropped: Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Fuel dropped by 6.26%, which reduced inflation by 2.60 points, Transportation dropped by 12.40%, which reduced inflation by 1.41 points, Entertainment and Culture dropped by 13.56%, which reduced inflation by 0.29 points, Clothing and Footwear dropped by 6.44%, which reduced inflation by 0.13 points, Miscellaneous Goods and Services dropped by 0.55%, which reduced inflation by 0.03 points and Communications dropped by 0.19%, which reduced inflation by 0.01 points.
 
On the other hand, price index of the following sectors was increased: Foods and Beverages increased 5.47%, which boosted inflation by 0.70 points, Education increased 1.87%, which boosted inflation by 0.17 points, Tobacco increased 14.92%, which boosted inflation by 0.09 points, Furniture, Furnishings and Household Appliances and Maintenance increased 0.13%, which boosted inflation by 0.01 points, Restaurants and Hotels increased 0.20%, which boosted inflation by 0.01 points and Health Sector Hotels increased 0.07%.
 
Consumer Price Index Increased by 0.12% in May 2020
 
General monthly index of consumer prices increased by 0.12% in May 2020 compared to April 2020 as a result of price increase of the following sectors: Transportation increased by 3.44%, which boosted inflation by 0.34 points, Furniture, Furnishings and Household Appliances and Maintenance increased by 0.12% and Miscellaneous Goods and Services increased by 0.06%.
 
While prices of the following sectors were dropped: Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Fuel dropped by 0.46%, which reduced inflation by 0.19 points, Foods and Beverages dropped by 0.21%, which reduced inflation by 0.03 points, Entertainment and Culture dropped by 0.30%, which reduced inflation by 0.01 points, Restaurants and Hotels dropped by 0.25%, which reduced inflation by 0.01 points and Communications dropped by 0.06%.
 
Prices of the following sections were stabilized: Tobacco, Clothing and Footwear, Health and Educations Sectors’ prices remained at their previous portions during the period of comparison.
