As per the report issued by Dubai Statistics Center (DSC), the
annual general index of consumer prices has dropped by 1.20% in February 2020
compared to the same period in 2019, as the prices of housing, water,
electricity, gas and fuel sectors have dropped by 5.21%, which reduced
inflation by 2.21 points in addition the clothing and footwear sector that
dropped by 3.21%, which reduced inflation by 0.06 points, the entertainment and
culture sector also dropped by 0.98%, which reduced inflation by 0.02 points,
the sector of miscellaneous goods and services dropped by 0.38%, which reduced
inflation by 0.02 points, as for the health sector, it recorded a drop of
0.01%.
On the other hand, other sectors have recorded various increases
such as transportation that increased by 5.11%, which boosted inflation by 0.53
points, the food and beverages sector that increased by 2.38%, which boosted
inflation by 0.30 points, the education sector that increased by 1.66%, which boosted
inflation by 0.16 points, tobacco sector that increased by 14.79% which boosting
inflation by 0.09 points, the furniture, furnishing, household appliances and
repairs sector that increased by 0.55%, which boosted inflation by 0.02 points,
the communications sector that increased by 0.17%, which boosted inflation by
0.01 points, and the restaurants and hotels sector that increased by 0.18%,
which boosted inflation by 0.01 points.
The Consumer
Price Index Drops by 0.33% during February 2020
The general monthly index of consumer prices dropped by 0.33% in
February 2020 compared to January 2020 due to a drop in the prices of housing,
water, electricity, gas and fuel sectors that decreased by 0.43%, which reduced
inflation by 0.17 points, and the entertainment and culture sector that decreased
by 4.43%, which reduced inflation by 0.09 points, the transportation sector
that decreased by 0.50%, which reduced inflation by 0.06 points, the sector of
miscellaneous goods and services that decreased by 0.45% reducing inflation by
0.03 points, the sector of restaurants and hotels that decreased by 0.18% which
reduced inflation by 0.01 points and the tobacco sector that decreased by
0.01%.
On the other hand, the prices of
food and beverage increased by 0.13% boosting inflation by 0.02 points, as well
as furniture, furnishing, household appliances and repair sectors that increased
by 0.07%.
As for the prices of clothing, footwear,
health, communication, and education sectors, they were stable at their
previous levels during the comparison period.
