The latest demographic statistics
reports issued by the Dubai Statistics Center (DSC) published at the end of
2019 have unveiled that the number of individuals habitually domiciled, and
resident in Dubai are counted for 3,355,900.
The number of people living in the
emirate has increased by 163,625 persons compared to the last 12 months of 2018
when the total population of Dubai was 3,192,275. This shows a growth rate of
5% during the said period.
DSC defines a population as the
number of individuals habitually domiciled and resident within the geographical
territories of the “Emirate of Dubai” at a specified period.
“The demographics in the Emirate of
Dubai are distinguished like other cities of an international nature where the
rate of population growth depends on those arriving in the Emirate to reside
and work and those leaving it for any reason,” DSC pointed out. This means that
the rate of population growth in Dubai is profoundly affected by the percentage
of the net increase in arrivals compared to the rate of natural increase.
The DSC report shows that the
average net increase of arrivals to Dubai during 2019 was nearly 4.0%, while
the rate of natural growth stood at 1.0%. The rise shows that Dubai is one of
the most attractive cities in the world for people who select it as their
destination to reside, work, or invest in it.
DSC pointed out that the population growth
rate is the result of subtracting the number of departures from those arriving
in Dubai for living and residing in it for a specific period, in addition to
the natural increase of the population which is the result of subtracting
deaths from births within the same period.
Gender Composition
DSC highlighted the fact that to
develop all plans, programs, and policies of all development aspects in Dubai
including the health and education, it is crucial to identify the gender of the
population who are habitually domiciled and resident in Dubai.
The latest population data shows
that males percentage stood at a rise in the total population as the percentage
is 228 males per 100 females. In the total resident population of Dubai, there
are 2,331,800 males and 1,240,100 females in the city at the end of 2019.
The higher proportion of males in
Dubai’s population has been attributed to the fact that a majority of workers
who move to the city from other parts of the world are males who live in Dubai
without their families, DSC said.
Balance
As for the demographic composition
of Emiratis living in Dubai, DSC stated that it is balanced and natural. The
gender ratio among Emiratis is 99 males per 100 females and that the percentage
of Emirati females constitutes 50.4% compared to 49.6% for males out of the
total Emiratis who regularly reside in Dubai.
