Divorce Rate Declines Among UAE Nationals

Six Divorce Cases for each one thousand of UAE population in Dubai

General divorce rate among the UAE population in Dubai- whether both espouses are UAE nationals or not- reached, last year, 6.0 for each one thousand of the UAE population in the Emirate.

A statistical report released by Dubai Statistics Center (DSC) revealed that general divorce rate between the UAE population in the Emirate notably declines to reach 3.7 for each one thousand UAE nationals in the Emirate, at the marriage age.

High Rates:

According to the report, net divorce rate between UAE population in the Emirate, whether both espouses are UAE nationals or not, reached, last year, 12.5 for each one thousand UAE couples.

Whilst "net divorce rate" among espouses of UAE national notably declines in the Emirate to reach 7.8, at the same year, for each one thousand UAE individuals, at the marriage age, living in the Emirate, a figure that is high as compared to world divorce rates.

Methodological Measurement:

The DSC stated that measuring divorce rates is one of the statistical methodological sides on the international level. Statistical bodies measure divorce rates with unified methodologies and concepts. Both general and net divorce rates are considered the most important rates related to this social phenomenon. Net divorce rate means:

The number of divorce cases between each 1000 of the married population in mid of the year. Such statistics can be applied at a certain strata of the population, such as UAE nationals, through calculating number of divorce cases, in mid of the year, between each 1000 couples of UAE National.

But general divorce rate is defined as the number of divorce cases between each 1000 soul of population at marriageable age regardless of their social status. Such statistics can be applied at a certain strata of the population, such as UAE nationals, through calculating number of divorce cases, in mid of the year, between each 1000 UAE nationals regardless of their social status.

Reliable Sources:

The DSC referred that there are studies and mass media which deal with statistical reports – on divorce rates- that contain inaccurate statistical indicators and outputs because they are released from unspecialized bodies having no adequate information inputs or because such outputs are not calculated according to the internationally approved scientific statistical methodologies.

There is no doubt that such inadequate numbers have a negative impact on users of the same and public opinion and may result in social influences, so the DSC repeatedly stresses the necessity of dependence on those official figures released from competent statistical bodies whose outputs are adequate and highly reliable.

Marriage Rates:

With regard to marriage rates between UAE nationals in the Emirate during the period from 2013 to 2015 (Both spouses are of UAE national), general marriage rate between UAE nationals at marriageable age reached 7.4 in the last year against 8.4 and 8.3 in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Whilst, net marriage rate between non-married UAE nationals reached 14.2 in the last year against 16.8 and 16.7 in 2013 and 2014 respectively.

Concerning marriage rates between each one thousand of UAE population in the Emirate during the same period (whether both espouses are UAE nationals or not), the general marriage rate- between individuals at marriageable age – reached 12.6 last year against 14.4 and 14.2 in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Whilst, net marriage rate between UAE population reached 24.2 last year against 28.7 and 28.4 in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
