Dubai Statistics Center: Construction Cost Increases by 0.44% in the first half
A DSC report showed that the general record figure of construction cost has increased in the first half of 2015 to 101.08, representing a slight increase of 0.44%, compared to the record of the first half of 2014, which is 100.63.
This is the result of the increase in the record figure of equipment, workforce costs as well as other costs from 102.70 in the first half of 2014 to 103.47 in the first half of 2015, where it recorded an increase of 0.75%. Also, the record figure of raw materials increased from 99.26 in the first half of 2014 to 99.48 in the first half of 2015, due to the increase in the prices of most of the materials used in construction, as it recorded an increase of 0.23%.
Raw Materials
The report revealed that the prices of raw materials used in construction in the first half of 2015 increased slightly by 0.23%, due to the increase in the price of quarries by 1.90% and the increase in manufacturing materials by 0.16%. Also, the prices of raw materials used in residential buildings increased by 0.28% and 0.03% in non-residential buildings.
Manufacture
The fluctuation in the prices of manufacturing materials and its ups and downs led to stopping the index from increasing by 0.16% for this category. The prices of refined oil products drastically decreased by 19.61%. The prices of principal metal products, such as the reinforcing steel and aluminum products decreased by 7.03% and also the prices of electrical appliances, including electricity distribution devices and wires decreased by 1.89%. The prices of timber and its products other than furniture decreased by 1.65%. The prices of chemicals and chemical products decreased by 0.78%. The prices of other equipment and tools such as water taps and water valves decreased by 0.24%. The prices of computers, electronic and visual devices decreased by 0.06%.
When studying the index as regards buildings, it was noticed that residential buildings price index increased by 0.21%, while the index for non-residential buildings decreased by 0.03%.
Computers
The index of computers, electronic and visual device prices decreased by 0.06% due to being affected by the decrease in the prices of measuring devices, validation, testing, navigation and control devices, represented in automatic control devices, water, electricity and gas meters and other, by 0.08%. There was a decrease in the prices of consumer electric devices, like electronic visual devices such as visual recorders and electronic audio devices such as recorders auxiliary devices.
The price of communication devices such as transmitters like transmission and receptor antennas decreased at an equal rate of 0.03% for both categories. When studying the index as regards buildings, it was noticed that the price index for residential buildings decreased by 0.07%, and for non-residential buildings by 0.02%.
Electric Appliances
The index for electric appliances decreased by 1.89%, due to the decrease in the price of wires and the other electronic and electric cables, such as insulated electric wires and cables made of steel, copper or aluminum at 3.42%. The prices of engines, electric generators and transformers as well as electric distribution devices and control panels decreased by 2.22%. Electric lighting devices decreased by 1.06%, while the price of home appliances increased.
