Annual Price Index of Dubai Stands at Rise by 1.79% in April

According to a report issued by Dubai Statistics Center (DSC), the annual general index of consumer's prices hit a rise level by 1.79% in April 2018 compared to April 2017.

The rise is attributed to increase in prices of Transport Group by 7.28% leading inflation to upswing by 0.73-point, Food and Beverages Group whose prices increased by 5.14% resulting inflation rate to increase by 0.62 per cent, Restaurants and Hotels Group by 10.94% pushing inflation rate up by 0.43-point, Education Group by 3.23% leading inflation to rise by 0.29 point.

Additionally, prices of a range of groups witnessed an increase, including Telecommunications Group by 5.52% increasing inflation rate by 0.27 point, Tobacco Group by 73.44% intensifying the inflation rate by 0.24,  Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance Group by 3.12% increasing inflation rate by 0.12,  Clothing and Footwear Group by 5.58% rising the inflation rate by 0.11 point, Miscellaneous Goods and Services by 1.58% pushing inflation rate up by 0.10 point and Health Group by 0.57%.

On the other hand, DSC's report indicated a decline in annual general index of consumer's prices of both Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and other Fuel by 1.91% which lessened the inflation rate by 0.86 point and Entertainment and Culture Group by 11.25% pushing inflation rate down by 0.25 point.

Upon comparing annual general index of consumer's prices of April 2018 with March 2018, the report shows that the inflation rate declined by 0.32% due to the decline in prices of Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and other Fuel by 0.42% leading inflation rate to go down by 0.18-point, Transportation Group went down by 1.10% pushing inflation rate down by 0.12-point, food and beverages prices decreased by 0.29% pushing also inflation rate down by 0.04 point, Clothing and Footwear Group by 0.56% decreasing the inflation rate by 0.01 point, Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance Group by 0.13% increasing inflation rate by 0.01 point, Telecommunications Group declined by 0.10% resulting in lowering inflation rate by 0.01 point, Tobacco Group by 0.05%, Restaurants and Hotels Group by 0.10%. Meanwhile, Entertainment and Culture Group witnessed a rise by 1.35% pushing inflation rate up by 0.03-point, Miscellaneous Goods and Services by 0.36% leading inflation rate to increase by 0.02 point and Health Group by 0.01%. As for prices of Education Group, they remained stable at their past levels during the comparison period.
