Annual CPI Drops by 3.61% in January 2019

According to a report issued by Dubai Statistics Center (DSC), it was revealed that the Annual Consumer Price Index (CPI) Rate hit a drop level by 3.61% in January 2019 compared to the same period in 2018. CPI decreases due to a decline in prices of Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas by 5.85% leading inflation to go down by 2.55 points, transportation group by 6.21% pushing inflation down by 0.66-point, Miscellaneous Goods and Services group by 0.71% decreasing inflation rate by 0.24 point, Clothing and Footwear by10.52% leading inflation rate to decline by 0.22 point, Food and Beverages 1.02% to lessen inflation rate by 0.13 point, Communications by 0.36% leading inflation rate to drop by 0.02 point, Recreation and Culture group by 0.40% pushing the inflation rate down by 0.01 point and Heath group by 0.22%.

In the meantime, CPI of Restaurants and Hotels group went up by 2.37% leading the inflation rate to rise by 0.10-point, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance group declined by 2.71% pushing the inflation rate up by 0.10-point, Tobacco increased by 2.87% adding to the inflation rate 0.02 point and Education rose by 0.03%.

 

CPI Shrinks by 0.1.28% in January 2019

As for the CPI of January 2019 compared to December 2018, it witnessed a decrease by 1.28%. Grounds for such a decline are attributed to a drop in Transportation group by 6.84% leading to a drop by 0.75 point in the inflation rate, Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and other Fuel by 0.44% leading inflation rate to decrease by 0.18-point, Food and Beverages by 1.11% pushing the inflation rate down by 0.14-point, Recreation and Culture group by 4.75% leading inflation rate to decrease by 0.10-point, Clothing and Footwear went down by 4.56% pushing the inflation rate down by 0.09 point, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance group by 0.29% to push inflation rate down by 0.01 point and Communications by 0.09%.

Meanwhile, prices of certain groups witnessed an increase, including: Miscellaneous Goods and Services group by 0.12% resulted in an increase in inflation rate by 0.01-point, Health group by 0.12% and Restaurants and hotels by 0.11%.

On the other hand, Tobacco and Education groups maintained their former levels during the period of comparison.
