Dubai Inflation Rate increased up to 4.21% in last December

​A report issued yesterday by Dubai Statistics Center (DSC) indicated a raise in the annual inflation rate for Consumer Price Index (CPI) by 4.21% in December 2014 compared to the same period in 2013. Tobacco Group ranked first at 10.41%, followed by Clothing and Footwear at 7.90%, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels at 7.70% while the Food and Beverage was declined at 1.77% and Recreation & Culture at 0.80%.

Inflation rate in major expenditure groups was as follows:

Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages

Annual Inflation rate of food and non-alcoholic beverages group has declined by 1.77% as a result of a decline in price of vegetables by 8.89%, followed by fruits by 8.72% then fish and seafood 7.64%.

Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco

Inflation rate of alcoholic beverages and tobacco group has increased by 10.41% due to a rise in price of tobacco by 12.89%.

Clothing and Footwear

Inflation rate of clothing and footwear has increased at 7.90% as a result of a rise in price of ready-made garments by 10.70% followed by shoes and other footwear by 2.80% then clothes by 2.29%.

Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and other Fuels

Inflation rate of housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels has increased by 7.70% due to a rise in rental prices by 9.17% followed by prices of electricity by 0.89% then liquid fuel by 0.86%.

Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance

Inflation rate of furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance group has increased by 5.92% as a result of rise in small household electrical appliances by 20.71%, followed by domestic services prices by 11.51% then prices of basic household appliances by 2.20%.

Health

Inflation rate of health has increased by 3.07% due to increase in medical products by 6.06%, followed by hospital services by 5.69% then pharmaceutical products by 2.96%.

Transport

Inflation rate of transport has increased by 2.08% due to a rise in road transport by 12.06% followed by air transport by 9.57%, then spare parts and accessories by 9.04%.

Communications

Inflation rate of communications has increased at 2.50% due to a rise in postal services by 12.13%, followed by telecommunications services at 2.64%.

 

Recreation and Culture

Inflation rate of recreation and culture has declined by 0.80% as a result of a decline in prices of Audio-visual devices by 31.34%, followed by information processing devices by 7.63%, then photocopying devices and accessories by 7.23%.

Education

Inflation rate of education has increased by 2.60% due to a rise in prices tuition fees for secondary school by 3.12%, followed by kindergarten by 3.04% then university tuition fees by 1.41%.

Restaurants and hotels

Inflation rate of restaurants and hotels has increased by 4.19% due to a rise in restaurants and cafés prices by 4.27%.

Miscellaneous Goods and Services

Inflation rate of miscellaneous goods and services has increased by 1.80% as a result of a rise in prices of personal care services by 7.94%, followed by personal care electric appliances then other unclassified services by 1.98%.

Monthly Inflation Rate*

On the other hand, consumer price index (CPI) has fallen at 0.03% during December compared with November due to a decline in the following expenditure groups:

Food and beverage by 3.44%, followed by recreation and culture by 0.31%, while the CPI for the clothing and footwear group has rose by 1.32%, followed by housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel at 0.82%, then Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Maintenance by 0.55%, and Health by 0.52%.

Transport by 0.24%, miscellaneous goods and services by 0.07%, restaurants and hotels by 0.03%, communications by 0.02%, while the rest of groups stood at previous levels during the comparison period.

Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages

Inflation rate of food and food and non-alcoholic beverages have fallen at 3.44% due to a fall in prices of fish and seafood prices by 12.77%, followed by fruit by 8.37% and vegetables by 3.43%.

Clothing and Footwear

Inflation rate of clothing and footwear has increased at 1.32% as a result of a rise in price of Clothing and Footwear by 2.80%, followed by ready-made garments by 1.29%.

Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and other Fuels

Inflation rate of housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels has increased by 0.82% due to a rise in rental prices by 0.95% followed by prices of housing maintenance materials and services by 0.65%.

 

Furnishings, Household Equipment and Routine Household Maintenance

Inflation rate of furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance group has increased by 0.55% as a result of rise in domestic services prices by 1.14%.

Health

Inflation rate of health has increased up to 0.52% due to a rise in laboratory and radiology tests fees by 3.73%, followed by medical products by 0.29% then dental services by 0.27%.

Transport

Inflation rate of transport has increased by 0.24% due to a rise in air transport by 25.73% followed by road transport by 1.69%, then prices of personal means of transport by 0.10%.

Communications

Inflation rate of communications has increased at 0.02% due to a rise in postal services by 2.83%.

High Rates

Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance rose by 5.92%, followed by restaurants and hotels at 4.19%, then Health by 3.07%, Education by 2.60%, communications by 2.50%, transport by 2.08%, and finally miscellaneous goods and services by 1.80%.
