AED 431,000 Average Spending of Emirati Families per Year

The basic results that DSC survey concerning family income and expenditure in Dubai showed, are that the average spending of an Emirati family is AED 431,165 annually and that's of the non-Emirati family is AED 202,924 annually. Meanwhile, the average annual spending for collective households is AED 129,130  and the average spending for workers is AED 22,526.

Arif Al-Muhairi, DSC Executive Director, informed  Al-Bayan that the average annual income of the Emirati family is AED 866,890 and of the non-Emirati family is AED 337,392, while the average annual income of collective households is AED 199,501 and that's of the workers is AED 29,215.

He clarified that these results are based on the survey DSC conducted, which show the average spending of the families that responded and gave their data, hence it was applied to the whole community of Dubai, which contains 32,154 Emirati family, 267,406 non-Emirati family, in addition to 85,336 collective households and 702,842 workers.

"The family income and expenditure survey is one of the most important family surveys with significant social and economic aspects. It started in April, 2014 and was concluded in March, 2015, hence its field work took a whole year.

This is considered one of the longest periods of field work, in order to cover different seasons, whether in income or expenditure. The work was conducted according to international survey methods and standards", he added. He also advised that the family income and expenditure survey is one of the basic surveys that help in studying the social and economic statuses of families, in knowing the community prosperity level and the family spending patterns, so as to give a clear picture of the different living standards in the community.

It also gives the best indicators of its social conditions, such as knowing the types of prevalent consumer spending patterns in Dubai community, getting to know the average income and spending of families and individuals and how far they are affected by the social characteristics of the population, such as nationality.

Also, providing weights that reflect the relative importance of the different spending elements that are used in defining the indices of consumer prices, satisfy the needs of national accounts concerning the data needed to determine the overall consumption and income of the family sector, in addition to providing the data required for calculating the various indicators for poverty lines, poverty rates and gaps, as well as provide the needed data to evaluate the level and trend of welfare for households and individuals. Al-Muhairi stated that the survey included 3600 Emirati and non-Emirati families, In addition to 720 individuals from workers clusters distributed all over the areas of Dubai. He advised that the social and family circumstances of  Dubai community were studied in general. Field visits were made at convenient times for families, as these visits were made between 5 and 9 pm maximum.

The average annual of the Emirati family spending is AED 431,165 including estimated rents of property, in addition to transfers, accordingly the average monthly spending of Emirati families is AED 35, 930 and the average monthly spending for Emirati individuals is AED 5,419.

Meanwhile, the average annual non-Emirati family spending is AED 202,924 including estimated rents of residencies, in addition to transfers, accordingly the average monthly spending of non-Emirati families is AED 16,910 and the average monthly spending for non-Emirati individuals is AED 4,747.

Income

The average annual income of Emirati families is AED 866,890, meaning a monthly average of AED 72,241 for a family; AED 10,900 for an individual, while the average annual income for the non-Emirati family is AED 337,392.
