3.07% Inflation Increase in Dubai in the Last Month

The report issued by Dubai Statistics Center (DSC) showed an increase in the annual inflation index of goods and services in the consumer basket at the rate of 3.07% in November 2015, compared to the same period in 2014, as this increase was led by the increase in the prices of the group of furniture, furnishing and home appliances and their repair by 6.87%.

Also, the prices of residency, water, electricity, gas and fuel group increased by 6.49%, while the increase in school fees impacted the increase in the prices of education group by 4.83%.

The change in the prices of goods and services in the group of miscellaneous goods and services showed an increase of 3.13%, while the prices of restaurant and hotel group increased by 1.59%. Also, the prices of the health group increased by 0.18%, while the index of the transport group decreased by 1.29%.

Moreover, the prices of the tobacco group decreased by 0.94%, while the prices of the clothes and footwear group decreased by 0.93%. The price of the group of food and beverages decreased as well by 0.44%, the group of entertainment and culture by 0.07% and the group of communications by 0.05%.

Decrease in Comparison to October

The monthly inflation index of the prices of goods and services in the consumer basket decreased by 0.19% in November 2015 compared to October 2015, due to the decrease in the prices of the transport group by 2.23%.

This group represents 9.08% of the relative importance of the consumer basket. Also, the prices of the food and beverage group decreased by 1.52%, as its relative importance is 11.08%. The price of the group of entertainment and culture also decreased by 0.17%, as its relative importance is 4.24% of the total relative importance in the consumer basket.

Also, the prices of the group of restaurants and hotels decreased by 0.02%, which forms 5.48% of the total consumer basket. The index of the group of miscellaneous goods and services decreased at the same rate of 0.02%, as it has a relative importance of 6.15% of the total consumer basket. Nevertheless, the index of goods and services prices, the category of furniture, furnishing and home appliances and their repair recorded an increase of 1.14%.

This group formed 3.34% of the total relative importance of the consumer basket. Also, the prices of the residency, water, electricity, gas and fuel group increased by 0.51%. This group is considered the most relatively important in the consumer basket, with a percentage of 43.70%.

The prices of the rest of the groups were stable at their previous rates during the time of comparison. It is worth noting that the relative importance of the other groups in the consumer basket was 0.24% for the tobacco group, 5.52% for the clothes and footwear group, 1.08% for the health group, 6.00% for the communications group and 4.09% for the education group of the consumer basket.

Residency, Electricity, and Fuel:

While observing the prices in the residency, water, electricity, gas and fuel group, it was noticed that the monthly inflation index increased by 0.51%, due to the increase in the prices of the rents that tenants pay by 0.58%, which is in line with the increases witnessed by Dubai. Also, there was an increase in the prices of goods and services, which in turn impacted the annual inflation index by 6.49% due to the increase in rents by 7.87% due to the general increase witnessed by Dubai.
